Eucharistic Adoration is one of the most beautiful ways to spend time with Jesus, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. In Adoration, we sit in the presence of Christ, offering Him our prayers, our hearts, and our love. This sacred practice deepens our faith and brings us closer to the mystery of the Eucharist. It is a wonderful tradition to introduce to children, helping them grow in their love for Jesus.
What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Eucharistic Adoration is a time of prayer and worship before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The Eucharist, which is truly the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ, is either exposed in a monstrance on the altar or kept in the tabernacle for silent prayer and reflection.
During Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, a priest or deacon places the Eucharist in a monstrance for the faithful to adore. Many parishes offer Adoration weekly, monthly, or even have perpetual Adoration chapels where people can come at any hour to pray before Jesus.
How to Teach Kids About Adoration
Teaching children about Adoration can open their hearts to the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Here are some ways to help them engage:
- Explain Jesus’ Presence: Help them understand that Jesus is not just a symbol in the Eucharist—He is truly present and wants to spend time with them.
- Encourage Quiet Prayer: Teach kids that Adoration is a time to listen to Jesus, just like talking to a best friend.
- Bring Scripture or Simple Prayer Cards: Reading the Bible, praying the Rosary, or saying short prayers can help guide their time with Jesus.
- Model Reverence: Show children how to genuflect, kneel, and pray respectfully in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
- Let Them Journal or Draw: Some children connect with Jesus through creative expression—encourage them to write or draw their thoughts and prayers.
- Teach Traditional Catholic Prayers: Familiar Adoration prayers can help children focus and understand the beauty of this devotion.
