July 22: St. Mary Magdalene + Free Printable

St. Mary Magdalene: A Witness of Christ’s Mercy

St. Mary Magdalene is one of the most faithful followers of Jesus and the first witness of His Resurrection. She is the patron saint of repentant sinners, converts, and contemplative life. Her feast day (July 22nd) is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on her deep love for Christ and how she teaches us about mercy, forgiveness, and faithfulness. To help children engage with her story, I’ve created a free St. Mary Magdalene coloring page that you can download and print!

Who Was St. Mary Magdalene?

Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ most devoted disciples. She followed Him closely, witnessed His crucifixion, and was the first to see Him after He rose from the dead. She is sometimes called the “Apostle to the Apostles” because she was the one who brought the news of the Resurrection to the disciples. Her life is a beautiful testimony to the power of God’s mercy and transformation.

Here you’ll find a video about St. Mary Magdalene from the Christian Family TV YouTube channel:

Reflection:

After reading and watching the video, ask the children:

  • Why do you think Jesus chose Mary Magdalene to be the first to see Him after the Resurrection?
  • How can we share the Good News of Jesus like Mary Magdalene did?
  • What does Mary Magdalene’s story teach us about God’s mercy?
  • How can we grow closer to Jesus in our own lives?

Did You Know? St. Mary Magdalene’s Feast Was Elevated to a Feast Day!

In 2016, Pope Francis raised St. Mary Magdalene’s memorial to a feast day, giving her the same liturgical honor as the Apostles. This highlights her importance in the Church and her special role in proclaiming the Resurrection of Christ.
